  • Germination of spores with Ca2+-DPA at 42 and 25°C as determined by a plate assay. Colonies of germinated spores appear red, due to their ability to carry out metabolism and reduce a tetrazolium dye, while colonies of dormant spores appear brown, because they do not reduce the dye.
